Schools and related services in Sveio

In Norway children start in 1st grade the year they turn 6. To be given a place, your child must be registered with the Office of the National Public Registrar (Folkeregisteret). 

The Norwegian school system is divided into three levels:

  • Primary school (1st to 7th grade)
  • Secondary school (8th to 10th grade)
  • Upper secondary school (1st to 3rd year)

Make sure you are registered with Folkeregisteret

Children start in 1st grade the year they turn 6. Your child will automatically be given a place at the school in your school district as long as you are registered with Folkeregisteret (Office of the National Public Registrar). As a newcomer, it is important to check that you are registered with Folkeregisteret. 

School day-care (SFO)

All children from 1th to 4th grade can attend school child care (SFO) before and after school. Children with special needs are offered school child care from 1th till 7th grade. Please contact your school for further information. 

School bus service

Some children have the right to use the school bus for free:

  • First-graders who live more than 2 kilometres from their school
  • Children between 2nd and 10th grade who live more than 4 kilometres from their school

School health care

All children in Sveio schools are covered by the school health care programme, which includes health examination and follow up, as well as a vaccination programme. The programme, which is run by the municipal health clinic, also offers counselling and specialist referrals for children with special problems.

School dental care

All children up to the age of 18 have access to dental care free of charge. You will be notified of your appointment.
